We believe carbon asset revenues should be predominantly owned by the communities that generate them through hard toil, ensuring a fair share of the benefits. While carbon markets remain powerful mechanisms for lifting communities out of poverty, they have often disproportionately impacted indigenous peoples, exacerbating inequalities rather than resolving them. For carbon markets to truly drive positive change, they must prioritise equitable ownership and fair revenue distribution.
