The Great Green Wall
is a Pan-African initiative aimed at combating desertification, enhancing food and water security, and supporting economic development across the Sahel by restoring 100 million hectares of degraded land.
The countries bordering the Sahara desert have committed to collectively come together and plant a corridor of trees and vegetation across the width of Africa, from Senegal to Djibouti. By restoring degraded lands, this ambitious project not only combats desertification but also empowers millions of people across the Sahel region to lift themselves out of poverty. Once completed, the Great Green Wall will account for one-third of the global tree-planting target set by the Bonn Challenge, marking a critical step in achieving meaningful global climate impact.
